Why Sie Ventures invested in Juno

With over $30 trillion in wealth transfer occurring over the next decade, women will soon control more than half the world’s wealth and they’ll want to know the best ways to invest it.

We met Alexia and Margot in August, 2021 and they joined our Sie Ventures Catalyst Program in September 2021. As big advocates of educating women about money and investing, we had looked at a few players on the market. From the first day we met Alexia and Margot, they got us really excited about their vision. The time spent together throughout the program gave us a good indication about their ambitions, and get to know them as founders. At the same time, they also learned where we can add value and support them on their journey.

We were particularly interested in Juno’s focus on educating Gen-Z women in financial literacy, as they enter adulthood and are seeking online guidance to better gauge their investment options. One of the greatest challenges for women is finding trustworthy knowledge about how and where to invest that’s tailored to women’s needs. Most investment platforms are targeted toward young men and women invest differently, however, not in the ways most wealth managers think. Proof of the issue is that over 80% of young women still rely on their parents and family for financial information. There is a fundamental problem with the industry that needs solving and we think Juno team is best positioned to do so.

A few of the reasons why we invested in Juno:

Women are great investors, but have been left out of the conversation

It has been proven in research that women make great investors and think long-term and strategically rather than trying to make a quick buck. Women also invest to solve social, political and environmental issues. Women tend to invest more of their income than men in the health, education, and welfare of their families and communities. To live in a better, safer world we need more women to invest.

However, there are very few resources that are aimed towards women, especially the Gen-Z. Although this market is growing, there’s still no one leading the charge and making a safe space for women to test their investment muscles with the right education and support to do it.

Juno is changing the narrative

For too often women have been told to buy less lattes and save more rather than advised on how to grow their wealth. Yet, women are more aware of their options today: we are seeing women want to invest, they want to grow their money rather than simply save it and they want to know the best place to do that which would also align with them ethically, morally and financially.

The market is adjusting now

The market for women and non-binary people looking for investment advice and community is growing at exponential rate. According to Fidelity data, 67% of women are now investing their savings in the stock market. This represents a significant 50% increase in the volume of female investors active in 2018. Further research suggests that women are not only investing on the stock market in greater numbers, but they generally outperform their male counterparts too.
According to annual figures, 40% of new Nutmeg investors in 2020 were women, whilst 44% believe that their shift towards investing will continue in the long term. This growing trend of women embracing investing tools presents a significant opportunity to the industry for platforms like Juno.

The team is perfectly positioned

After working closely with Alexia and Margot on the 3-month Sie Catalyst program, we got to know them both well, and understand their business deeply from an investor perspective.

They are resilient, hard working, surround themselves with the right experts and advisors to turbo charge their growth, and they are extremely passionate about the problem they are solving. They understand consumer business growth, have shown this already at such an early stage. But most importantly, they are within the demographic they are building the solution for and so they understand the need intimately, and what resonates with their target customers. We have also been impressed how they’ve divided their responsibility areas as co-founders to work more efficiently, and have hired incredibly strong and diverse talent to support Juno’s growth.

We love seeing women building FinTech companies

At Sie Ventures we are vertical agnostic, but we are passionate about technologies across Fintech, B2B SaaS, Sustainability and Healthcare. With FinTech as one of our biggest areas of interest, we knew that Juno is very strongly positioned in their space and couldn’t miss out on this opportunity!

… we can’t wait to see what Alexia and Margot do next to become the household name in women’s wealth.
